Car rental tales

Posted on 15 August 2010

When you rent a car in your own country you know what you get. You can go out and get the cheapest car insurance and save up on that and on getting the navigation system and you’re set. And this doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s safer to drive wherever you come from or that you instantly become a better driver when you’re close to home, it just means that you have more confidence and faith in yourself when you’re driving somewhere you’re familiar with.

When you rent a car abroad, it’s a totally different situation. Not knowing what to expect is a terrible thing when you’re driving, as is not having enough peace of mind behind the wheel. That’s why whenever I rent a car abroad I don’t feel like spending money on extra insurance and on a navigation system is a waste of cash. In fact, it’s proven that if you’re driving with confidence, alongside driving with care and attention, you become a better driver. And confidence is something that you will definitely need when driving somewhere where people have little respect for traffic laws and for other drivers. It’s up there alongside driving skills with the most important things you need when driving.
